Overview:
The incumbent will be responsible for management of all the commercial and sourcing aspects of their assigned categories, including the creation and oversight of a strategic plan, developed and managed in conjunction with key Functional stakeholders. They are responsible for the negotiation and implementation of major contracts, effective cost management programs, and the establishment of successful relationships with suppliers on an Asia Pacific Regional or country basis. The agreements and contract associated with the assigned categories will be expected to exceed multi-million dollars.

Major Responsibilities:
  • Using a standardized Category Management process, the incumbent will lead all commercial and sourcing aspects of their assigned categories (all IT and non-IT sourcing categories).
  • Define and implement strategic plans for each assigned category, with due consideration for markets traits and opportunities, the operational requirements of CS, and available appropriate sourcing tools.
  • Manage assigned categories at Asia Pacific Country level.
  • Establish, manage and develop a capable supply base for each category requirements.
  • Develop aggressive cost containment and reduction goals for each category within CS and produce ongoing performance reporting.
  • Establish a system to analyze, review, report and negotiate supplier price changes, ensuring that the organization is well prepared for price increases and that the company is not unduly affected by them in the short or long term.
  • Consolidate sources and develop alternative sources ensuring uninterrupted supply of goods or services, delivered in a cost effective and quality manner.
  • Closely monitor market trends and supply/demand factors, technology advancements, legal dictates and communications to help in the decision making process to meet the strategic goals of the organization.
  • Establish regular communications with the key internal clients, to ensure agreement and adoption of category strategies, on-going review of activities undertaken and maintenance of strong client service.

  • Requirements:

    The candidate should ideally have:
  • In excess of ten years experience in either:
    i. Sourcing or
    ii. Management of a functional area directly associated with the category they
    are managing.
  • An understanding of how to analyze a category cost structure.
  • Strong negotiation and contracting skills.
  • A strong appreciation of the strategic drivers and technologies facing CS and the categories they manage.
  • The ability to recognize and take advantage of global and regional sourcing programs jointly developed throughout the CS Group.
  • Experience of implementing and operating business-to-business e-commerce solutions. Operational knowledge of eSourcing would be a significant plus.
  • Strong understanding of Supplier Screening programs with the ability to evaluate and mitigate any associated potential business risk to CS.
  • A strategic focus and an in-depth understanding of the role he/she plays in creating relationships with suppliers, which are mutually acceptable, which extract optimum supply value and minimize costs.
  • Skills

  • Degree level qualification. Certified membership of the Institute of Supply Management (USA), the Chartered Institute of Purchasing and Supply (UK), or other recognized national / international Procurement institution, together with an MBA would be regarded as a significant plus.
  • Fluency in both English and Japanese (written and spoken) is essential. ----------------------------------
