Software development and support position based in Henley-on-Thames focusing on maintaining and enhancing in-house developed software. Working with the existing 30 staff to deliver high quality support, while developing best practices to ensure high reliability, the role involves close coordination with the Markit Infrastructure team.

Markit Economics is a recently acquired division, responsible for producing the well known, monthly Purchasing Managers` Index (PMI)  economic indicator series. Markit Economics is based in Henley-on-Thames, while Markit`s UK head office is at London Bridge.

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Responsible for systems administration and build processes
  • Managing production systems maintenance and support, including potential out of hours support / release work
  • Planning and reviewing infrastructure changes
  • Aiding integration of existing Markit Economics systems into Markit Group Ltd
  • Reviewing development specs and developing new solutions as required
  • Within the team, you will be the Support Lead, reporting locally to the head of operations in Henley-on-Thames on the business side and to the Tech Lead in London Bridge on the technology side.  The tech team is expected to grow to 3-4 people next year.
  • Part of this work will involve the separation and relocation of existing systems to a new datacenter
  • The candidate will also be involved in developing the new software framework (in SQL Server, based off existing Access databases and VBA), integrating the existing functionality and data into existing Markit systems, and developing new modules as required.

Business Competencies

  • Strong academic background and experience in delivering and supporting business solutions
  • Due to the small size of the team, this role would suit a generalist with experience or an adaptable person who learns quickly. Experience in any of the following areas would be an advantage – SQL Server or Access DBA/development skills, web server (IIS) skills,  Windows operating system and some hardware skills (networking, disaster recovery, automation of faxes, printers, VOIP phones)
  • Technical experience of Microsoft systems development, administration and support, using Access, Excel, IIS, SQL Server and VBA
  • Commercial Awareness - Experience of working to tight deadlines and the ability to prioritize accordingly is necessary.

Personal Competencies

  • The candidate will be expected to be a self starter, taking ownership of support and be able to work under high pressure
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills will be needed, for communication with the Business and Tech Lead in the London Bridge office.
